The Los Angeles Angels placed right-hander Bartolo Colon, the AL's reigning Cy Young Award winner, on the disabled list Wednesday with inflammation in his throwing shoulder. The move was made right before the game in Minnesota and was retroactive to Sunday, when Colon lost to Baltimore. Right-hander Kevin Gregg was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Colon's roster spot, and Gregg was available to pitch Wednesday against the Twins. |

Los Angeles Angels fans have saved some of their loudest cheers this spring for Tim Salmon, rewarding him for a long, distinguished career spent entirely in Anaheim. Salmon, 37 and coming off a year's layoff following knee and shoulder surgery, hopes to keep it going. Fighting for a spot on the roster, Salmon has been hitting well this spring. |

Adam Kennedy is a hit at the bottom of the batting order for the Los Angeles Angels. Kennedy bats ninth despite a .300 average last year. There, Kennedy helps "set the table" for the heart of the lineup, according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia. When asked if he ever batted last in the lineup before the Angels, Kennedy shook his head no. |

Garret Anderson led off the second inning with a home run to help the Los Angeles Angels beat the San Diego Padres 15-2 on Monday night. Anderson has been hampered this spring by sprained plantar fascia tissue in his foot. He went 1-for-2 and played left field in just his second game since March 7. Orlando Cabrera, Juan Rivera, Dallas McPherson and Darrell Sales also homered for the Angels. Sales' shot was a grand slam with no outs in the ninth inning. |

First baseman Casey Kotchman had a marvelous spring last season, hitting .358 and finishing second on the team with 16 RBIs, but he was sent down to Triple-A to start the season because Darin Erstad was already penned in as the team's first baseman. This season, though, Kotchman came into spring training with the first base job in hand, and he has shown he is well deserving. |

--OF Tim Salmon, trying to make the team after missing all of last season following shoulder and knee surgeries, went 2-for-4 Sunday with a three-run home run and a single. This spring he has gone 14-for-42 with two homers. --OF Garret Anderson was feeling fine after playing for the first time since March 7 because of a strained left arch. Anderson, who returned to action Sunday, homered Monday. --RHP Hector Carrasco has had a tough spring, posting an 8.74 ERA. |

Los Angeles Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez gave up three runs in the ninth inning and took the loss Tuesday when the San Diego Padres rallied to take a 7-6 victory. Rodriguez wasn't all that shaky, allowing one hit and walking two of seven batters. But the Angels' right-hander didn't get much get much help from his teammates in Los Angeles infield. |

The Angels are already dealing with plenty of aches and pains to their aging players. Garret Anderson has a strained arch in his left foot and Darin Erstad has had shoulder soreness and a bone spur in his right ankle.
